Portland Observatory TTV

I haven’t uploaded a Through The Viewfinder shot for a while, so here you go… This is from a while back, the first week of ‘spring’ on a phototour Portland, ME. Because of the way Maine’s coastline works incoming ships couldn’t be seen from the harbour so they built this here observatory (not a lighthouse) on the hill so they could see when boats were on their way into the port and sound the horn/ raise the flags to tell the dockers to get on it. (more…)

It’s time for Winter Tweets

I could never get the hang of Twitter, but 24 hours later I’m liking Google Buzz. This is taken through the window of one of those shops that makes you wonder how they manage to stay in business. East Portland, Maine…

Quadrophenia

This summer I gave away a couple of my old TTV cameras to some mates back in the UK but I picked up another one t’other day off of eBay for the princely sum of 11 dollars. I’m sorely tempted to do a 365, one-a-day TTV project for this Flickr pool, but i barely had time to play pacman on Facebook today let alone indulge my creative side.

Anyroad. Here’s my collection of guitars in my little office from various angles. Hope you approve.

Trillium

Up at Tryon State Park this weekend there was a Trillium Festival celebrating this rare little flower that’s bustin’ out all over the woods there. The main events seemed to be childrens’ face painting, plant sale, and indoctrinating a new generation to support the Oregon State Lottery.

Kodak Duaflex II

Here’s the little camera that prompted me to register the domain vintageviewfinders.com. It was a bargain all round. I’ve not taken many TTV shots lately, but will soon…

If you’re reading this on the site and not via email, I spent a couple of hours trying to make it so you can click on the main photo to view the next image. It was surprisingly tricky but I managed it in the end. Now you don’t have to fiddle around trying to find the link each time. There’s never been a better time to have a look through the archives (this is photo #251 😀 )

Also on the cards is a button to switch the background to white or grey depending on your mood. Don’t hold your breath for that one mind, but I’m on it.

Siberia, 1963

Or Portland, 2008 through a Kodak Duaflex II from 1963(ish)…
Looks like the temperatures have risen and from today on there’ll no snow at the metro level. It were good while it lasted.

Autumn turns to winter

I bought the domain name www.vintageviewfinders.com today. A bargain at 99cents for a year and I’ve set it up to forward to this category. Wish I’d thought of it before I got my business cards printed, but hey ho.

Mexican Colours

Oregonian temperatures… I liked the way the shadow cast itself across the decidedly Mexican looking paintwork. It’s a photo from my ‘thanksgiving’ stroll yesterday morning.

Here’s a photo from Guadalajara to contrast with…

IMGP8750

Local Nutz $2.49/lb

Not sure what that is in metric, but it seems like a bargain. Let’s do the maths… 2.2lbs in a kilo so… $2.49 x 2.2= $5.48/kilo and today that’s £3.67 in pounds sterling for a kilogram of walnuts and hazelnuts. Is that a good deal?

I’ve not had a comment on this photoblog for weeks so I’m trying to invite interaction…

Cusp of Winter

This is from wandering round Portland’s Arboretum, where they have a fine selection of trees with their Latin names emblazoned on plaques. Though this here photo could really be from anywhere…

Dia de los muertos 2008

This photo’s from November 2nd or thereabouts. I’ve not had a chance to go out and take new pictures in the last few days. Things have suddenly got very busy. I shall try and keep this blog going again but I’m going to take the weekend off. Hopefully very soon I’ll be trying to fit pictures of Seattle into the carefully made categories of this here phlog.

Also watch out for the about pages which now feature ads for Duaflex cameras… Have a great weekend, I’ll post again on Monday.

My wheels, yo

I was hanging out in the antiques shops again this afternoon, I saw a load of cameras priced between 15 and 40 bucks and was sorely tempted. I reckon I should take at least another couple of hundred photos with my present cameras before I start adding to the collection. That said, I’m already thinking of trading my digital camera in for one with a higher resolution, because once I’ve cropped to the size of the viewfinder it’s probably only 2 megapixels, max and I’m not sure how they’ll look when printed.
