Another one from last Saturday’s photowalk round Chinatown. Phwalk? No. That sounds ridiculous.

Anyroad. I’ve been souping up this here blog again. Arguably I should spend my time taking/ uploading more photos rather than tweaking this theme but I reckon this is a good idea ‘cos I like photoblogs with big pictures. From now on landscape (horizontal) shots will be displayed in all their 940 pixels-wide glory and portrait (vertical) ones will get the usual theme that we’ve all grown to love over the years. Also I finally worked out how to get pictures to link to previous posts, so clicking on the image will take you to the previous post.

Of course, if you’re a email subscriber, it’s business as usual, but you can click here if you’d like to see the minor changes. And thank you once again.

I went on a photo meetup on Saturday- intro to street photography. I didn’t learn a huge amount, but it was a new area of town and nice folks. Travelling with a pack of paparazzi emboldens (if that’s a word) you to step out of your comfort zone a bit and take closer shots of folks. Here’s some folks playing cards in Chinatown on a balmy afternoon.

10 days in and I’ve finally got round to updating this blog. Managing a curious schipperke and a pentax with manual focus in the big city is proving harder than I though.

Nada con exceso…

All adverts for alcoholic drinks in Mexico have to have a government safety warning on them somewhere. Corona has gone with ‘Todo con medida’ literally ‘All with measure’. There doesn’t appear to be any law on the relative size of the warning to the rest of the ad though.

This was taken after a rainy morning stroll through Tlaquepaque a lovely neck of the woods. Still loving it here.

I MISS MEXICO… (you’d be surprised how many people Google ‘Miss Mexico’ and end up here… can’t imagine why)

One of the few things I regret, other than not still living south of the border, is that I didn’t take a tripod with me on our trip to Oaxaca. That said thanks to me 1:1.4 50mm lens I managed a good few hand-held night time shots like this one in the courtyard of Santo Domingo’s church which, though they don’t hold up to close scrutiny, give a good feel for the atmosphere.

There was an impromptu shadow puppetry display whilst on Sunday’s Maine Photography meet-up. I missed a shot of “Nixon meets a Duck”, but I liked this one… It’s the textures I think.

It’s probably only if you’re visiting from Maine right now, but I just wanted to point out that part of the diabolical contract I signed to put advertising on these pages states I don’t get any say on which are shown. So if you’re seeing ill-informed, self-righteous, hateful, homophobic anti gay marriage propaganda I can only apologise. Hopefully the sickening measure will be defeated and Maine gay couples will continue to enjoy a modicum of equality in some areas of their lives. Vote No on 1.

I don’t have a huge amount to say about this pic that I’ve not already mentioned in my blog or facebook. Suffice to say, Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm is well worth a visit right now.

The waterfalls between Portland and The Dalles are connected by an old (by American standards) road with picturesque little bridges.

DrSita’s just crossed one here. The shallow depth of field and blur is deliberate. Honest.

Who knew that you can press your face into fresh powder snow on a car and you get an insanely detailed imprint. I couldn’t bring myself to do this to the dog so I tried it myself.

If we weren’t heading off out so soon I’d try for a fuller recreation of Han Solo Frozen in Carbonite…
