One of the last Maine Photography Meetups for me today down by Evergreen Cemetery in Portland. The plan was to shoot warblers, but frankly, other than seagulls and pigeons I’m not very good on identifying the local feathered wildlife. Anyroad, long story short, here’s a collage of one of the little critters that deigned to stay still for a minute or so while I had the right lens on.

I haven’t uploaded a Through The Viewfinder shot for a while, so here you go… This is from a while back, the first week of ‘spring’ on a phototour Portland, ME. Because of the way Maine’s coastline works incoming ships couldn’t be seen from the harbour so they built this here observatory (not a lighthouse) on the hill so they could see when boats were on their way into the port and sound the horn/ raise the flags to tell the dockers to get on it.

Sorry to my wonderful email subscribers for the repeat post yesterday. I’ve been playing with the theme again and made a few changes so you got resent the Skipping in the Rain in Oaxaca pic from a few weeks ago. On the plus side, comments are now hidden until you click the ‘Show Comments’ bit under each photo. What with the blog now importing from Flickr they were getting a bit unwieldy. Fixed that.

Also right now this blog is called From Mexico to Maine… in a couple of months it’ll be urban photography all the way cos we’ll be trapped in New York City without a car. Any suggestions for a better title? Comments are as welcome as ever… Ta

I could never get the hang of Twitter, but 24 hours later I’m liking Google Buzz. This is taken through the window of one of those shops that makes you wonder how they manage to stay in business. East Portland, Maine…

For First Friday Art Walk in Portland I met up with the usual suspects for a couple of hours of night urban photography. I tried to do the whole thing flash-less which meant some nice bokeh wherever I pointed the camera.

From Saturday’s Maine Photography Meet-up in Portland harbo(u)r. It’s got decidedly colder since then. Snow/Ice on its way… On the plus side, I’m an amateur photographer with free heating and don’t work on a tugboat…

Matey here was following us when we went lobster fishing. The bait from the lobster pots gets chucked into the sea and is replaced with fresh herrings. The seagulls were well used to this process and having them hover close by made them prime targets for me camera.

Even the dodgy bits of Portland have their charms.
